Influential Manchester-based label spearheaded by the late Tony Wilson, with Rob Gretton, Alan Erasmus, Peter Saville and Martin Hannett. The roster included Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio, The Durutti Column, Happy Mondays, James, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Wake and Section 25.

The label folded in 1992, before being revived by Tony Wilson as Factory Too in 1994 and again in 2004 as F4.
