Breakwater are a funk and soul American band from Philadelphia, formed in 1971.

The band features founder members, Gene Robinson Jr - Lead Vocals, James Gee Jones - Drums, Steve Green - Bass, Lincoln Gilmore - Guitar, Greg Scott - Sax and John Braddock - Percussion.

The band released their debut eponymous album in 1978, followed by "Splashdown" in 1980. "Spalshdown" features the song, "Release the Beast" which was sampled by Murs ("Intro") and Daft Punk ("Robot Rock").
