[1948 - 2020] David Olney was an American folk singer/songwriter. Formerly a member of Bland Simpson's band Simpson and his own The X Rays, Olney has performed as a solo artist since the early 1980s.

Olney's songs have been covered by Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt and Laurie Lewis, among others.
