British jazz pianist who attended the Royal Academy of Music before becoming a member of the jazz project Empirical, appearing on their self-titled debut album in 2007.

After leaving Empirical, Downes formed the prog jazz group Troyka and continued to record and perform with the Kit Downes Trio (an occasional Sextet). His debut release with the trio was the 2009 album 'Golden'.
