- Spike Milligan
[1918 - 2002] Spike Milligan was a much-loved Irish comedian, writer, musician, poet, playwright, actor and founder member of the popular Goon Show. On calling famous fan - Prince Charles - a 'little grovelling bastard' on live TV in 1994, he later faxed the prince, stating: 'I suppose a knighthood is out of the question?'. At the time, Spike already held a CBE, later receiving his knighthood in 2000.
Spike famously requested the following inscription on his tombstone: 'I told you I was ill' (written in Gaelic).
