Monarchy of Roses - Red Hot Chili Peppers Single Review

Single Review

Monarchy of Roses is the second single taken from the album Im with You, released in August, the first being The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie. Its by far-and-away the best song on the album (in my opinion) and an obvious choice for a single.

The three track single features the album version of the song, a slightly shorter radio edit and an instrumental, with the album version being the best of the three, being that it contains the full rumbling tom, distorted guitar intro and runs about 30 seconds longer (at 4:14).

I have no idea what a Monarchy of Roses is, but I dont really care, as I have never really paid too much scrutiny to RHCP lyrics. Overall, its reasonably typical Chilis material, featuring a bouncy bassline groove that drives the song, and it is as catchy as an STD, but much more pleasing.

Being that Rain Dance Maggie hit the top spot in the US singles chart (#44 in the UK), Id imagine this track will fare quite a bit better.
