The Rise Of The Giddy - Rubicks Album Review
This album is my album of the year by a mile…I love it. It is the second album from the London foursome, the follow up to 2006's 'In Miniature'.
I reviewed 'Giddy Up' the single in May 2010 so this album seems to be along time coming. Believe me and trust me it's been worth the wait. Superb.
If you like a touch of Blondie and Gary Numan this is definitely for you. Like I wrote last year it's those punchy synths and that dreamy eclectic sound which got me hooked.
It's clean and vibrant. Vanessa Anne Redd's voice is highly underrated, she is outstanding track after track. She's got a lot of Siouxsie Sioux and Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's going on.
Every track is stand out for me: 'Is This Love?', 'Giddy Up', 'Surrender' and the list goes on. In fact 'Surrender' and its gushing guitars and pounding drums is immense. I honestly can't get enough of this album - blimey you would think I work for the record label!
But seriously this is a very impressive follow up. I hope they get some airplay and some recognition. They have clearly worked hard to get a very distinctive sound and all round high level of quality.
Like I say it's got Kraftwork, New Order, Joy Division, Gary Numan, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Blondie all mixed up in there. Bring it on.
All I can say is when does the Tour start? If I could rate this album out of 10 I would give it 12….Brilliant!
