Album Review

Swindon troupe with an eye on the charts.

For this review, I have to abandon any prejudice I have for boy-bands, and go with the flow. September 20th saw the release of Beatbullyzs lead-off single and title track Human Nature. Its good, very good.

In a biz full of wannabe celebs and pop stars, its a tough call for any new band to tread on the toes of the established acts. So what chance for Beatbullyz? I cant say success wise. But I might just put my neck on the line.

Human Nature is a great start, principally because the songs are really strong, with the album bursting at the seams with radio friendly ditties. The key to their potential success are fab melodies, and apart from the rap interludes (which every god darned act seem to think they need for teen-appeal) the singing is top-notch.

Also to their credit, the production values are superb, so overall, Beatbullyz are setting themselves apart from the likes of say JLS (who theyve already supported) or The Wanted. Just about every song has that anthemic touch which Im sure will grace the biggie radio stations, and if they dont I wanna know why.

Opener, Golden City, is a lush production with sweeping strings and is very impressive, and unlike many boy-banders, is totally unpretentious: basically, very cool. If theyre looking for the next single it has to be Bounce. It does just that, and is a sure fire hit, especially for party-goers.

How The Story Goes, is a nod at Take That, with its pure-pop sensibilities with some nifty and gentle rapping, with just enough not to distract from the key moments, and get too bogged down. This would make great single too. As for Pieces, mh... Anyway, closer Heartbeat, featuring Lizzy Pattinson is the best of the bunch.

The only serious blots on the landscape is the dance-geared Skills (aghhhh!) and the overloaded rap on Starlight that started promisingly enough, nevertheless, the core of the song is still impressive.

The verdict Bright and bold. Might just give the big boys a run for their money.

Radio Hear a track from Human Nature on THE PLUG on Monday 4th October between 2-4PM online at www.calonfm.com
