This single landed on my desk, with Cee Lo staring out at me above the title FU. Thinking this was some kind of shortening for Kung Fu, and being a bit of a sucker for martial arts, I popped the disk in. Oh its a capital F and capital U, I see
No sooner had I listened to the track than I headed to www.ceelogreen.com to watch the video (check it out, below). Already a big Gnarls Barkley fan, the pair have in 2010 both gone on to try vastly different projects Danger Mouse with his alternative-rock Sparklehorse collaboration, with Cee Lo sticking to his soul-singing roots with this new single and album, the latter of which is due out in November.
The single has two versions of the track: clean and dirty with the video being the naughty version, so if you are offended by a few f, s and n-words, then dont watch it. For me personally, I know its not big or clever to swear, but the video is pretty great in my opinion. The whole retro thing reminds me of Outkasts Hey Ya, which I really liked, so it will come as no surprise that I like this also. The clean version transplants the f word with forget and the s word with shhhh. Doesnt seem to bother with the n-word. You can download either version of the song, with the clean version being billed as Forget You and the naughty one as F*** You.
Cee Lo has a great voice, but also a pretty good sense of humour too, as witnessed by the video which his character entering a diner as a boy until later graduating into a young man where he both professes his love and hatred for his girl, the heart-breaker, whilst comparing her to an X Box and himself as a lowly Atari.
Great little song, and I imagine itll be the clean version that hits the airwaves. I wont be too happy if my nine year old starts singing the naughty version around the house
