Album Review

Mark Huff always knew that it would be one hell of a challenge to emulate or even better his cracking 2007 album Gravity, which propelled him right into the spotlight over in the US. To help himself along he joined forces with producer Adam Landry and after a few years of hard work he has got yet another top album to showcase.

Opening tracks Two Days and Only Birds Are Free really set up the entire feel of the album. They are both effortlessly cool, soulful slices of Country folk with top vocals, guitar work and fantastic lyrical imagery. I Am Listening kicks it up a notch, going electric with the result being an excellent tap-a-long song with plenty of energy. Scar So Easy is another good song, with plenty of bitterness in both lyrics and music, with the bluesy guitars sealing the tone of the song. One Light is simply a great country song, thats all that needs to be said. Zero Weather is a much heavier affair than the rest of the album, with a great rock guitar and edgy vocals working really well for a change of pace. Roll Me Under and Change your Name are both more examples of this mans ability to structure a great story within a folk song, with both songs giving off a great upbeat vibe. I Hope You See Me is even better than whats gone on previously, a truly top class song and the album finale Take Me Anywhere may well be a slightly cheesy and obvious song for an album closer but that doesnt stop it being yet another great song.

Well he has certainly followed up Gravity with another classic album. Only time will tell which one is better but for now just sit back and enjoy some of the best modern Country music this side of an in-form Neil Young.
