Album Review

Australian by way of London, singer-songwriter and guitarist Kris Morris debut album I Think We Both Know is set for release on 13th April.

The bearded crooner has been gigging all over, both back home, and in London including respected venues The Bedford, and Putneys The Halfmoon, amid numerous live radio sessions for the BBC. Kris's debut EP Little Light, released in early 2007, was recorded in two days in a friend's back room. His newest offering is already receiving rave reviews.

Much more mature-sounding than his years, Morris is gracefully talented. With smooth, romantic vocals and intelligent lyrics, the sincerity of his voice and meaning come right through your speakers. I Think We Both Know was recorded at the idyllic Rush House a rural Victorian hunting lodge in the UK and the spirit of the sessions is imprinted on the album. The band arranged songs as they went along, harmonies were created spontaneously and it makes for an earnest masterpiece.

Album opener So Beautiful bears resemblance to Damian Rice with its yearnful lyrics and aching violin matched with female backing a theme running through the collection. Title track I Think We Both Know really gets the album going as were buckled down for journey.

Vocal strength and fantastic harmonies present, this album offers nothing new musically, its very safe and familiar. But it makes a change from a bunch of Northern lads singing about being badly done-to.

Kris claims his influences include Neil Finn, Ray Lamontagne, and old favourite Ryan Adams to name a few, although the latter didnt come across too clear. Im thinking more of a lovelorn Jack Johnson. The album is now streaming from his website, www.krismorris.com, so go and check it out and get in the know first!
