The Last Poets

African-American hip-hop/soul and poetry collective formed in 1968.

Often cited as a pre-cursor for hip-hop and human rights movements, current members include Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, Abiodun Oyewole and Umar Bin Hassan. All three members have embarked on collaborative work with each other, including Umar Bin Hassan's "Be Bop Or Be Dead" album.

Key band albums include "The Last Poets" (1970), "This Is Madness" (1971) and "At Last" (1974).
