Originally a club-night held at Charlie Wright?s International Bar in Old Street, Steel Pan Fusion (AKA "Melting Pot") "captures the energy of those sessions and also charts the evolution of the SPF band, an ensemble that is defined by the chemistry that binds leader and sidemen, and the stylistic breadth of an original repertoire. Austin, a native of San Fernando, Trinidad who has been resident in Britain for some 20 years, embraces the entirety of musical experiences that shaped him in his youth and adulthood, such as playing in the Fonclare steel band captained by his highly respected uncle Milton ?Wire? Austin, tuning into the soulful fusion of American legends Grover Washington jnr and David Sanborn, and plugging into the electronic music, from hip-hop to house to drum & bass, that formed the soundtrack of life in London in the ?90s."
