American easy-listening and country singer-songwriter active since the late 50s.

His album series "Hot August Night" and "The Jazz Singer" remain his most popular and successful, although his resurgence in the 21st century continued with the Rick Rubin-produced "12 Songs" and "Home Before Dark", plus: "Dreams" (2010) and 2014's: "Melody Road".
