Principal orchestra of the BBC, founded in 1946.

Principal Guest Conductors have included Charles Mackerras, Günter Wand, Alexander Lazarev and Jukka-Pekka Saraste (2002-2005).

The BBC SO performs around the world, commissions new works from contemporary composers and is a champion of British classical works.
