Established in the late '90s, The Autumn Defense began as a side-project for Wilco/ Uncle Tupelo bassist John Stirratt, who was joined by friend Pat Sansone (Joseph Arthur/ Josh Rouse).

Albums released include: "The Green Hour" (2001), "Circles" (2003), "The Autumn Defense" (2007), "Once Around" (2010) and "Fifth" (2014).
