Vocalist and kora player from Guinea who became a member of the Mali-based Rail Band in 1971 (with Salif Keita).

Kanté is best known for his 1987 hit 'Yé ké yé ké' which was No 1 all over Europe and became the first African single to sell more than one million copies.

His very many album releases include 'Courougnegre' (1981) and the European hit 'Akwaba Beach' (1987).
