Founder, in 1965, of San Francisco bluegrass and folk rock band The Youngbloods with whom 'Banana' (real name Lowell Levinger) played guitar and electric piano.

The Youngbloods' self-titled debut was released in 1967; the first of more than a dozen albums released prior to the band's eventual break-up in 1985.
