- Irving by Gaslight
Irving by Gaslight is a one-man play written and directed by Andy Smith, performed by Nick Emmett.
"Henry Irving, a poor boy from nowhere, born 1838, changed the face of the performing arts forever. Irving laid the foundations for the British theatre in the 20th century and became the first actor to be knighted. He conquered America with Ellen Terry and worked himself to death suffering a fatal stroke on stage in 1905.
Comic, tragic, driven, solitary he bestrode the British stage, a colossus who could only fall."
