Serbian/American performance-artist whose early 1970's work explored ritual and pain ("Rhythm" series).

Her more recent work includes "The Artist Is Present", an exhibition/performance which involved Abramovic sitting mute and immobile for over 700 hours, facing spectators who took it in turns to sit opposite her.

She has won several awards and is an honourary Doctor of Arts at Plymouth Uni.
