BBC TV soap series that began showing in 1985, proving to be one of the most successful programmes in the BBC's history.
The show is based upon a fictional district in East London called Walford. Popular characters (and some of the most hated) include Den and Angie Watts, Phil and Grant Mitchell, Dot and Nick Cotton, the Fowlers, the Brannings, Iain Beale, Barry Evans and Roly the dog.
