Oklahoma-born free-jazz drummer, aka James Marcellus Arthur "Sunny" Murray, active since the late 50s.

He is seen as a pioneer of jazz-drumming, eschewing the usual time-keeping role for improvisational solos and workouts.

He performed with Cecil Taylor, Gil Evans and Art Blakey amongst many others.
