Kalbakken are half-Norwegian siblings Kirsty & David Birchall Nyhuus, who started playing music together in 2005. Both had played in various punk and improv bands in Manchester (including Our Beautiful Ridiculous Plan and Stuckometer) but for Kalbakken went back to their roots - traditional Norwegian folk song half recalled from childhood and then expanded on with meticulous research in libraries around Scandinavia.
