"Set in 1953, the play tells the story of the actor Sir John Gielgud, who was arrested in a Chelsea public lavatory for importuning men for immoral purposes.

Recently knighted and about to feature in a West End play he was directing, Gielgud's case is thought to have played a part in making homosexuality legal as it took place at a time when it was thought by many to be a threat to British life."
