It's universally accepted that Foo Fighters' supremo Dave Grohl is, well, a bit of a dude when all is said and done. Of course there was Nirvana, of course there has been Foo Fighters and, naturally, there have been moments in his career he'd be happy to recount at the drop of a hat and the clink of a whisky glass.
His latest project is Sound City, a film conceived by the man himself after shelling-out for a recording console from the studios of the same name. But this is not just any old recording studio console, this is the Neve 8028 console that has become something of a holy grail for many musicians. It's been responsible for recording the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Guns and Roses and Rage Against The Machine, amongst others - why wouldn't you want to own it?
After installing said console into the Foo Fighters' own 606 Studio complex, Grohl and the band, plus guests no less iconic than the previous roll-call, joined in for a 24-hour session. Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor and more, set about recording some songs, the results of which have been recorded for Sound City - Real to Reel, a CD release due out on 12th March, with the film coming out on DVD/ Blu-Ray format a day before.
