Ultraísta unveil debut album and first ever UK tour for autumn 2012

Radiohead allies Godrich and Waronker team up with Laura Bettinson for future-beats project, tickets on sale now

Currently doing the rounds on Hypemachine and the like is a nifty slice of softly-sung electrowave called 'Small Talk'. Remixed by Four Tet, the original version is the brainchild of relatively-new trio, Ultraísta, and can be sampled along with many other related delights on their Soundcloud page (www.soundcloud.com/ultra1sta). Swift detective work reveals the identities of the parties involved - Radiohead's so-called sixth member, Nigel Godrich, esteemed American on-call drummer for REM, Smashing Pumpkins and a certain Mr Yorke, Joey Waronker and velvet-tonsiled vocalist Laura Bettinson.

With such a pedigree, Ultraísta cannot fail and 'Small Talk', along with recent rump-shaker and video-hit 'Bad Insects' and the subtle 'Static Light', are as summery as you could possibly want your September to be. Naturally, Godrich's attention to detail and Waronker's ear for a rhythm certainly help - Nigel's seen out albums by some of the biggest names in pop including Paul McCartney, Air, U2 and, of course, Radiohead, while Joey's CV boasts Beck's albums, Smashing Pumpkins' sessions for 'Adore', Elliot Smith and being replacement for REM's Bill Berry. Bettinson has a slight air of Elisabeth Fraser about her voice - it's all good.

Ultraísta's first album (self-titled) will appear on 5th November, with a trio of UK dates to round off an October European tour. The three shows will take place in Oxford on 5th October, followed by Brighton on the 6th and Dalston on the 7th. Prices range from £9 to £11 and are on sale via us now.
