Oxjam

Isn't it great how charity events pull people together and gets the old brain-cogs whirring with unique, bizarre, bonkers and death-defying feats of fantastic fund-raising. Look at Children in Need - from filling your bath with broad beans and then eating all of them (cold) with chopsticks, to scaling the three peaks on a scooter or listening to the entire back-catalogue of Jedward on a Heathrow runway (naked), there is no stopping some people's imaginations running riot to raise money for just causes. I made those challenges up by the way - you might like to try them for Pudsey's next bonanza.

Instead, you could raise money a far simpler and more enjoyable way - get involved in this year's Oxjam and Oxjam Takeover events taking place right across the UK. Oxjam is a month-long annual music festival which takes place in October, all in aid of Oxfam. The charity's message is simple - 'Fight Poverty With Music' - and you don't even have to abseil down a tall building to join in. Just use the venue's entrance to any one of the superb music events on offer in October (click the "More Oxjam" button, below). There are also Oxjam events taking place throughout the year, plus fashion shows, quizzes, treasure hunts and more.

In September, however, there is one VERY special week's worth of Oxjam shows coming up in East London.

From 24th to 28th September 2012, Dalston's Oxfam shop on Kingsland Road will become an Oxjam shop, where you'll be able to buy the best in second-hand music, books and clothes AND see some big names perform in the shop itself!

Kicking things off on Monday 24th September will be Graham Coxon and Theme Park in session, with support (TBC), while on Tuesday 25th, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs will perform a DJ set with support from Ben Westbeech. Wednesday welcomes upcoming Lucy Rose and Kyla la Grange and Thursday sees Hot Chip and Friends, with the 2 Bears, performing and DJing some of the tunes from the shop or even your own record bag. Rumour has it, they're being given control of the whole shop!

We have available right now, priced from £15 - £25. Now that's fundraising!

Please note: the shop is obviously a small premises and can only take a limited amount of people at any one time - so get in quick and help make musical history by saving lives around the world.

Update: ticket availability

As alluded to, above, demand for tickets was large and the shop can only fit so many people in, so tickets are now sold out for both the Graham Coxon and Hot Chip nights. There are just a few remaining for the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Lucy Rose nights (as of 15th Sep). Be quick!
