We Are Augustines announce autumn 2012 UK tour

Posted: 11 years ago
The trio are following the global release of their debut record and a summer of festivals with a UK tour - tickets on sale Thursday 21st June 2012

We Are Augustines have, for such a young band, already been through more than their fair share of difficulty. Originally formed as Pela, a four-piece from Brooklyn (where else?), the band was reborn with Pela members Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson teaming up with Rob Allen to form WAA (in 2010).

Pela's story was more tragic than most. Having released an album and penned 'dozens' of songs for a second, that always challenging task of converting all the ideas into a cohesive sophomore album was made that much harder when lead songwriter McCarthy lost his brother, James, to suicide. Both McCarthy brothers, as well as Eric Sanderson, were born in the month of August and the name of the new project wrote itself.

In James McCarthy's shadow and honour has risen a crackling indie-rock band whose music has been lent a certain gravity and worldliness by the tragedy. Many of the songs from the Pela era made their way onto WAA's debut record, 2011's Rise Ye Sunken Ships (released globally in 2012). Widely acclaimed, Rise Ye Sunken Ships precipitated a busy period of touring and promotion. After a busy summer of US shows and European festival dates, WAA return to these islands in September with an autumn tour.

The first date is in Bristol on 30th September, followed by gigs in London (Shepherds Bush Empire), Manchester, Leeds and more, before the final show announced so far in Birmingham on 9th October 2012. We will have tickets available from 9am on Thursday 21st June, prices starting at under £10. Bargain.
