It's been quite a year for Emeli Sandé. Not only has the Scottish singer had to follow in the intimidating footsteps of Adele as the next in line to bear the daunting expectation of the annual What's Hot lists, she has also seen her debut record knocked off the album top spot by the recurring success of the very same's all-conquering 21.
What would have made things even worse is if Emeli Sandé had retained her first name as part of her stage moniker. Given the empire building going on over at Adele Towers, one suspects that 'Adele Sandé' might not have prospered quite as she has.
Even with the 'original' Adele breaking (and selling) all the records, Adele Emeli Sandé has found a market for her rich soulful pop and her distinct, at times haunting, vocal. The debut record topped the charts, as did her debut single; albeit as a credit on Professor Green's Read All About It. Emeli Sandé followed that with a succession of big hits including her solo breakthrough, 2011's Heaven, and this year's Next To Me, both of which peaked at No 2 on the singles countdown.
Sandé's success should not be overshadowed or belittled by her namesake's megastardom but her progress has been altogether more sober. Her arc continues with the announcement of her biggest UK shows to date, scheduled for November 2012 and including a show in the prestigious surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall on 11th November. The four-date run also sees shows in Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester. We will have tickets available from 9am on Friday 15th June, priced from around £25.
