Tristan Mackay announces summer 2012 academy dates
Posted: 20th March 2012
The Leeds-based singer-songwriter is following the February release of his debut album with a handful of dates in May and June, tickets now/Friday 23rd March
Tristan Mackay is currently the protagonist in a very modern fairy tale. Beginning his musical career busking on the streets of Leeds, under the name The Bedroom Orchestra, he was spotted not on the corner of Greek Street but on MySpace.
And not by just anybody. Mackay was picked up by the Grammy award-winning producer Martin Levan, a UK music industry veteran with countless credits as diverse as Iron Maiden, Ralph McTell and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Levan invited Mackay to his Red Kite studio in Wales to lay down demos and the pair began collaborating on what would become the singer-songwriter's debut album, Out Along the Wire, which was released in February to four- and five-star reviews. The record includes contributions from Pete Van Hooke and Paul Carrack, both once of Mike and the Mechanics, and John Garden of the Scissor Sisters. Reviews called the album 'sincere and finely crafted' and even drew parallels with the early work of Eric Clapton, one of Mackay's great idols.
Tristan Mackay kicks off his summer jaunt at the O2 Academy in Sheffield, followed by dates in Stratford (upon-Avon, not upon-Olympics), Newcastle (upon- oh, never mind) and then the Islington Academy on 6th June, before the final date announced so far at the Liverpool Academy on 7th June 2012.
We have tickets available now for the Stratford gig, with the remainder going on sale at 9am on Friday 23rd March. All are priced just £8 (even London).
