Some couplings are an obvious marriage made in heaven - lemon and lime, Ant and Dec, egg and chips. Others are a pleasant surprise, such as rum and raisin or Philadelphia cheese on ginger biscuits (try it).
The pairing of a street dance troupe that were finalists in the 2009 series of Britain's Got Talent (Simon Cowell described them, with typical understatement, as "one of the best things I have ever seen in my life!") with one of England's most respected and lauded ballet companies may seem an incongruous combination. Yet, when Flawless and the English National Ballet first collaborated at the Peace One Day concert at The O2 in September 2011, the chemistry was undeniable.
Flirtation over, the two companies are teaming up for a UK tour of a joint production called 'Time is of the Essence', which will feature the ten Flawless dancers and ten ballerinas from the ENB. The show has been created by Flawless artistic director and lead choreographer Marlon 'Swoosh' Wallen and Jenna Lee, soloist and choreographer at the ENB.
'Time is of the Essence' will combine the acrobatics and gymnastic dynamism of one of the UK's top street dance crews with the grace, poise and pure athleticism of the English National Ballet to deliver a unique contemporary dance experience with broad appeal.
The production opens at the Hammersmith Apollo on Friday 1st June, a week later moving on to Nottingham, Wimbledon, Woking, Aylesbury and more, before the final shows in Manchester from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th July. Note that there are also matinée performances in each location.
We have tickets for selected dates available now, priced from £10 to £36 for the best seats, depending on venue.
