After a large chunk of their autumn 2011 tour sold out, rejuvenated grebo gurus Pop Will Eat Itself have announced a week of dates for the spring.

Eclectic, visually arresting and always fun, the 'Poppies' have been making (new) waves since 1986. After ten years as one of Stourbridge's finest cultural ambassadors (alongside The Wonder Stuff and Ned's Atomic Dustbin), PWEI reformed briefly in 2005 and then again last year, this time without linchpin Clint Mansell who has traded the West Midlands for the west coast of America, where he spends his timing writing film scores.

Mansell had been an as identifiable part of PWEI as their Atari-inspired artwork and easy access, pop-whore lyrics. But the show must go on and, in truth, the 'new' Poppies, with the long-serving Graham 'Crabbi' Crabb at the wheel, have exceeded expectations, delivering a series of performances in the bands' finest traditions.

There's even been new material, in the form of the July 2011 album 'New Noise Designed by a Sadist', filed alongside classics such as 1987's 'Box Frenzy' and 'This Is the Day...This Is the Hour...This Is This!' released two years later. As chroniclers of late twentieth century fast-food culture, PWEI's contribution is a valuable one. Cheeky, innovative, noisy and endless fun, the Poppies' return has been warmly embraced. Long may it continue.

The spring tour kicks off in Wrexham on 14th March, followed by gigs in Wolverhampton, Southsea, Nottingham and Bristol, before the final date at the Electric Ballroom in London on 23rd March 2012.

We have tickets available now for the Wrexham show, priced £16. We will have tickets for the remaining gigs when they go on sale at 9AM on Friday 16th December, priced £18 for London and £16 for all other dates.
