Posted: 12 years ago

As the infamous cry of Noddy Holder's "It's CHRIISTMAAS!" blasts out of another set of speakers, somewhere on your High Street, you can't escape the fact that the festive season is well and truly upon us. To this end, there aren't many new tours to tell you about, but there are lots of other special gigs, shows and events taking place in the coming weeks. Yes, we've packed two weeks into one with this issue, covering the weeks from Monday 19th Dec and Monday 26th Dec.

Paul Weller, Chas and Dave, Jedward, and the Moscow State Circus are all giving up their valuable time to entertain you next week. Not surprisingly, for the second week, we concentrate on a few of the bigger gatherings happening for Auld Lang Syne.

On Tuesday 20th, you have the chance to contribute to something great - Stand Up and Rock for the charity, Crisis at the Hammersmith Apollo. Tickets to see Weller, Tim Minchin, Graham Coxon, Jo Brand, Ross Noble and more, cost from £38.50. The top seats (£75) have already sold-out.

Gaw bless 'em, Rockney-geezers Chas and Dave return to the IndigO2 for a pair of luvverly Christmas Jamborees. Get set for a great knees-up on 22nd and 23rd Dec as the lads party their way through "Rabbit", "Margate", "No Pleasing You" and "Gertcha" - tickets cost from £25.

Once one of the biggest indie-pop bands in the UK, responsible for the catchy "Female of the Species" and "The Ballad of Tom Jones", Space have regrouped for a festive reunion in hometown Liverpool on 22nd Dec. You can't miss this - tickets cost from £12.50.

Lucky old Birmingham! Yes, for this festive season, you can book tickets to see this amazing Internationally-renowned circus at Star City, in Nechells. The Big Top will be pitched from 19th Dec til 8th Jan. Tickets for their Babushkin Sekret show cost from £10 upwards.

Jedward and the Beanstalk

What do get if you cross a traditional fairy-tale with two bonkers entertainers? You get Jedward in all their squeaky glory, performing Jack and the Beanstalk as you've never seen it before. Dublin's Olympia Theatre is home to the twins from 22nd Dec onwards - €25 is the starting price.

Back for another run in London (perhaps 'run' is not the best expression for a sleepy saggy old cloth-cat), with a two-week residency at the Soho Theatre from 22nd Dec until 8th Jan. You can bet that 50% of the audience will be over 30 yrs old for this charming musical - tickets cost from £10 upwards.

This would make an ideal gift for fans of BBC Radio Scotland's successful sketch show. Oran Mor in Glasgow is hosting a four night residency with your irreverent host, Jonathan Watson, at the helm. Expect a satirical look at the year's news-stories, with the odd impression or five. Tickets for 20th to 23rd Dec cost from £15.

In the build up to their hugely-anticipated (and sold out) appearance at this year's Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh, Primal Scream will perform two year-end Screamadelica shows in Dublin (29th) and Glasgow (30th). Prices are €44.05 and £32.50 respectively.

David Gedge and co will perform a few pre-NYE shows in Fife, Glasgow and Leeds, before heading to Camden's Dingwalls for a proper indie knees-up with Sharks in support. Those first few cost £10 - £15, while the NYE shindig weighs in at £20.

As much a part of NYE as snogging a wrong 'un or bringing back up your Lambrini, Norman Jay's glorious escape from the hustle of reality Good Times returns for a mammoth session at the Battersea Arts Centre on New Year's Eve. Tickets cost £40, which also gives you sets from The Nextmen and Tom Middleton.

It's Full On Ferry as the world-renowned DJ touches down in Brixton for a world-exclusive appearance. Tickets have now sold out, but there is the chance of returns for the show which also stars Judge Jules and many more.

Birmingham's premier NYE party features 2 Many DJs, Eric Prydz, AN21 and more until 4am. Early Bird tickets sold out long ago, but there are still a limited amount of standard tickets available at £45 each. You can expect ice cannons, pyrotechnics and a typical Gatecrasher soundsystem.

Manchester's superclubs have all the usual NYE shenanigans going on, but the Joshua Brooks venue is signing off it's popular Micron club-night with a set from Justin Robertson. Surely that's an expensive night out. Pfft - you pay just £10 for this very final Micron night.
