Major Lazer, the collaborative musical project between Diplo and Switch, is heading out on tour next spring.

The DJ and production team grabbed headlines with their 2009 debut album, 'Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do', making the Top Ten of both the US Heatseekers and Electronic charts. Heavily influenced by the music of the Jamaican dancehall and 'fronted', Gorillaz-style, by a cartoon Jamaican soldier (who kills zombies), the sounds of Major Lazer, and particularly the album's stand out single 'Pon de Floor', attracted interest way beyond its comparatively meagre chart performance.

'Pon de Floor', produced by Afrojack and featuring vocals from Vybz Kartel, has already been sampled a number of times, most recently (and famously) by Beyoncé in her 2011 release 'Run the World (Girls)'. Major Lazer also produced a mixtape with Elly Jackson of La Roux, 2010's 'Lazerproof', and the same year's EP, 'Lazers Never Die' included remixes by none other than Thom Yorke.

For the transatlantic duo of Diplo and Switch, it was a clear indication that there was more to come and more work worth doing and, alongside solo work, the pair are working on a second album, due for release early next year.

The Major Lazer 2012 tour kicks off at The Ritz in Manchester on Wednesday 18th April, followed by the Shepherds Bush Empire and then Birmingham's HMV Institute before the final gig announced so far at the ABC in Glasgow on Sunday 22nd April 2012. Support for the tour comes from Unicorn Kid and Toddla T Sound.

We will have tickets available for all dates when they go on sale at 9AM on Friday 9th December 2011, priced £12 for Glasgow, £16 for London and £14 for Birmingham and Manchester.

Tickets are expected to sell quickly.
