Mayer Hawthorne and the County announce March 2012 UK tour - tickets available now

Posted: 12 years ago

Mayer Hawthorne's intoxicating mix of retro soul and hip hop has given the singer, songwriter, rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist a reputation as a very modern recording artist, readily blending influences and styles.

His first releases didn't come until he was 29 years old (in 2008), but since then his sound and unique flavour has found fans round the world. His track 'Just Ain't Gonna Work Out' was selected as an iTunes Pick of the Week in October 2009, 'When I Said Goodbye' featured in 'We Were Once a Fairytale', a film by Spike Jonze and Kanye West, and his song 'Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Pleasin' Nothin' made it onto the fourth season of the American sideways look (and swipe) at the world of fashion, 'Ugly Betty'.

Hawthorne's second full-length studio release, 'How Do You Do', hit the racks last month to generally warm response, not least for his welcomed (by most critics) move into 'up-tempo groove-happy soul music'.

Employing a wide range of musicians and bearing all the hallmarks of Hawthorne's myriad influences, from Motown and rap to the songs of Holland-Dozier-Holland, 'How Do You Do' is considered his most rounded record to date. Following its release, the multi-talented LA-based musician is visiting these shores in early 2012, after a series of US shows (including New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, if you fancy it).

The tour follows a big 2011 for Hawthorne which included appearances at Lollapalooza, Coachella, SXSW and Bonnaroo, as well as a summer supporting Bruno Mars.

Mayer Hawthorne kicks off his short UK tour at Scala in London on 7th March, followed by gigs at Manchester's Ruby Lounge and Oran Mor in Glasgow, before the final show at Thekla in Bristol on 11th March 2012,

We have tickets available now for all dates, priced £13.50 and £12.50 for all other dates.
