Fatboy Slim

Y'know when some bright spark says; "I was there, mate", when referring to a major event and you end up thinking; 'I wish I was too'? Well, you may get your chance with news of another huge event involving Brighton's prodigal son, Fatboy Slim.

Next summer will see two days of the massive outdoors clubbing experience that is, the Big Beach Boutique, only this time this 5th edition will be christened Big Beach Bootique and will take place at the American Express Community Stadium in Falmer on 1st and 2nd June. OK, it isn't quite on the beach, but it is right near the city's University buildings and on a train route between Brighton and Lewes - so no excuse for not being able to reach it! Carl Cox will play the Friday, with Nero supplying a DJ set on the Saturday and many more to be announced.

Big Beach Boutiques started in 2001 when 65,000 people descended on Brighton's famous beach for a free rave-up, courtesy of Fatboy Slim, Channel 4 and a tolerant council. However, it was 2002's event which brought the city to a standstill, with over 250,000 clubbers and bystanders flooding the seafront, pier and surrounding streets - the organizers had initially hoped that just a quarter of that number might turn up. And this was before Twitter!

Resultant events have been low-key, of sorts. BBB3 ended up becoming a tour of global beaches, stopping at Brighton's on a freezing cold New Year's Day, while 2008's BBB4 had an audience of 20,000. For next year's stadium bash, you'll probably at least be able to find a toilet when you need it and plenty of bars geared up for a decent-sized audience, numbers of which should exceed the average Brighton & Hove Albion home-game. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Friday 28th October.

Update: line-up expanded

Making sure both of the Big Beach days go with a bang, the line-up has now been expanded to include: DJ Luciano, maya Jane Coles and the 2 bears - joining Carl Cox and Norman on Friday. Saturday's procedings will now include Annie Mac, DJ Fresh, Jaguar Skills and Doorly as well as the previously announced Nero DJ set.
