Mencap: Little Noise Sessions 2011 to make big noise in Hackney with Elbow, Example, Goldfrapp, Marina and the Diamonds and more
Posted: 5th October 2011
Stop what you are doing and check this out for a line-up! Just when you thought that the Mencap: Little Noise Sessions 2011 couldn't be bigger than last year's Union Chapel event, which starred Tom Jones, Paolo Nutini and Hurts, this year's version, complete with a new venue, has surpassed expectations ten-fold.
Elbow, Goldfrapp, Example, Marina and the Diamonds, Sinead O'Connor and King Creosote are some of the huge names chosen to take part across the six-days in November. The whole shebang, now in its sixth fundraising year (proceeds go to mind-charity Mencap), will once again be curated by its ambassador Jo Whiley and will move from Islington to Hackney, although the theme of the venue, St John-at-Hackney, is intimacy and reverence - it is, after all, a church.
The week of big-name shows will open with Bury's BRIT-winning bards Elbow on 22nd November, backed with Maverick Sabre, a pairing that continues the mini-festival's tradition of linking unlikely bedfellows together. Marina and the Diamonds will appear on the following night, while Goldfrapp and Alpines will appear on the 25th.
A big night is promised on the 26th with chart-toppers Example and Ed Sheeran appearing alongside teenage covers sensation Birdy and indie-faves Fenech-Soler. Finally, a very rare live appearance by Sinead O'Connor with Mercury Prize nominee King Creosote rounds off the concerts. One final big name will be announced for the 24th.
We will have tickets for the shows from Friday morning at 9am, though how long they will remain on sale for depends on how quickly they get snapped up. But, if you can't get tickets, why not donate some of that ticket money to Mencap, the charity that cares for those with learning disabilities - just click this: www.mencap.org.uk
