Calling all hip-hop heads and fly girls and boys!! You may remember our recent competition to win tickets to the Streetsounds UK Fresh Reunion at the Scala, the celebration of 25 years of the first such concert in London. You may also be aware that another massive hip-hop show is approaching, but this time dedicated to the b-boy crews and their world-class dance routines.
The Brixton Academy will be hosting the 16th annual B-Boy Championships, with the UK Knock Out Jam 2011 taking place on Saturday 15th October and the World finals taking place the day after. Tickets for these mind-blowing shows cost £15 and £22.50 respectively, with the Saturday UK Jam featuring hip-hop legends Afrika Islam and Crazy Legs.
The latter performer (from the infamous Rock Steady Crew) has also penned a foreword to a brand new bumper illustrated book by DJ Hooch, entitled "B-Boy Championships From Bronx to Brixton". The glossy tome features over 100 colour photographs and profiles of some of the most famous and respected b-boys from around the world, as well as detailed info on how to recreate the moves, the pops and the styles of those very champions. Hell, you'll be locking your limbs and popping your neck like a true pro quicker than you can say 'mum, where are my Filas?', or at least until you have read the rest of this article!
Whether you are a participant or you're an admiring onlooker, you will love this sumptuous 190-page book written by the man behind the B-Boy Chamionships, no less.
