Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds take flight with first airing of new material and album announcement

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

When Oasis split in 2009, half the world was in mourning, the other half shrugged its shoulders and carried on with life - and that's pretty much how both Gallaghers have responded since their collective global-brand came to a stuttering halt two years ago.

Both brothers opted to get cracking on new material as soon as the news hit the headlines, with Liam winning whatever race there might have been between them, with the launch of his Beady Eye project, basically comprised of Oasis members minus Noel. The debut album, "Different Gear, Still Speeding", hit number 3 in the UK and Ireland, although none of the singles chosen from that album have set the world alight. Which begs the question - is everyone else waiting for Noel?

If they are, the wait is over - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds project has been officially unveiled, with the inaugural release of new material represented by "The Death of You and Me". Due to be issued on 21st August via his own Sour Mash label, the song harks back to the days of Oasis' more plaintive efforts such as "Half a World Away" and "The Importance of Being Idle" and is a promising start to the next chapter in the Gallagher's weighty legacy.
