If Stewart Lee is enjoying something of a love affair with audiences and a fawning media, surely it is nothing compared to the affection he must feel for the Leicester Square Theatre.

To the uninitiated, the building may appear to be little more than a magnificently restored post-war theatre located in the heart of London's West End but to stand-up comedian and writer Stewart Lee, it is a dear friend to whose embrace he returns again and again. And again.

Towards the end of 2009, he embarked on a 37-date run at the theatre. As Christmas 2009 approached, Lee set up camp for 40-odd gigs. But still he wants more and will be resuming the affair in November with the first of more than 50 performances of a brand new full-length show that runs to the end of January 2012.

If comedy is still 'the new rock'n'roll' then surely Lee is one of the art form's punks, entertaining the masses with quips and snipes, all delivered with arch nonchalance. It's no surprise that Lee's shtick has found a brother in arms at the LST, a venue that housed many a punk gig in the 1970s.

Stewart Lee will be embarking on his 51-date residency at London's Leicester Square theatre from 15th November 2011 to 28th January 2012. Tickets are available now, priced £18.50 for shows Monday to Thursday and for Saturday matinée performances (4.30pm) and at £21.50 for Fridays and Saturday evening shows. However, the first six gigs of the run are available for just £15.50.

A month before, Lee headlines the Joking For Justice fundraising comedy night at the same venue which also features Ava Vidal, Robin Ince and Liam Mullone. Tickets for the 20th October charity gig are available now, priced £20.

Failing that, you catch him at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where his Flickwerk 2011 show runs at The Stand throughout August. Tickets are a tenner.

Update: residency now extended into February 2012!

51 dates? Pah, Stewart laughs in the face of such a puny number. 63 dates is where it's at. Yes, Mr Lee will be taking his "Carpet Remnant World" Leicester Square Theatre residency into February 2012, running as it is now until 10th February.

Many of his November dates (15th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 24th) are now sold out. Tickets for the 2012 dates start at £21.50 and are on sale now.

Stewart will also be appearing at Robin Ince's 'Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People' along with Tim Harford at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 23rd December, which will require some pretty hot foot-work from the comedian, as he's also playing Leicester Square that evening!
