Taking the Ferry from Olympia to the Baltic - Gateshead to host Bryan Ferry events in January 2011
Posted: 17th December 2010
Roxy Music's profile has certainly increased during the past year, what with festival slots, a new album from its lead singer and the possibility of more activity waiting in the wings. The first related 2011 action will come courtesy of a very unique and special event, set to take place at one of the most iconic buildings in the North East, the Gateshead-based BALTIC Contemporary Arts Centre. Trust me, this IS an incredible-looking place!
Tyneside holds something very dear to Bryan Ferry, singer with the glam-funk outfit, and to celebrate the release of the acclaimed album "Olympia", an exhibition and rare on-stage interview event will take place in January next year.
The free exhibition will run for 10 days from 15th to 25th and will feature many photographic and art images taken from the various photo-shoots for the album's cover and booklet. There will also be some rarely seen images taken from Roxy Music albums, as well as the chance to purchase a copy of Ferry's new art-book, also entitled "Olympia".
In addition, Bryan Ferry and writer Michael Bracewell will be engaging in a staged conversation on 22nd January, discussing his extensive career and interest in art. Never less than enlightening, Ferry will also be signing copies of his book and waiving his fee for the evening - all proceeds will go to the BALTIC Centre's Learning Programme and tickets are on sale now priced at £30 (plus fee). There is a glass of complimentary champagne with your name on it, when you arrive at this event.
