Move on up to the front - Simple Minds set to Sparkle in the Rain (or shine) with summer 2011 greatest hits forest tour

Simple Minds

The news that Jim Kerr and his landmark Simple Minds band are set to play a 'greatest hits' tour in 2011 seems inevitable, given the huge interest in the 80's decade at the moment. Yet this is no idle rehash or hastily-arranged reformation - Simple Minds haven't been on a long siesta, despite Kerr's recent side-project Lostboy AKA, they've been rehearsing songs for their 16th studio album and the follow-up to 2009's "Graffiti Soul".

Meanwhile, there is the small matter of reminding audiences of just how formidable Simple Minds can be in a live setting, opting for the great outdoors rather than faceless arenas. The Greatest Hits Forest Tour dates begin on 10th June in Kent at the Bedgebury Pinetum, followed by 11th June (Thetford), 17th June (Tetbury), 18th June (Notts), 24th June (North Yorks), 25th June (Cannock) and finally Delamere Forest on 3rd July.

Support for all dates comes from Starsailor's James Walsh who is working on his debut album, assisted by none other than Suzanne Vega. Check the man's progress on his recent EP 'Live At The Top Of The World' and get a free download of the song 'Man On The Hill' from his website (www.jameswalshmusic.com).

Tickets will cost £35 for all venues and will go on general sale this Friday at 9am.

The band follows in the footsteps of Simply Red and Keane by playing this Forestry Commission-endorsed stint and Kerr states: "We've never done the forest gigs before so we are really looking forward to performing in such beautiful places." He said it!
