No hurdles ahead - top Athlete adds Nov 2010 Forum date to 'Greatest Hits' sprint around UK

Posted: 13 years ago

They've trained hard for ten years and now they are ready to embark on an Olympian tour, just for you. Back in June we announced that Athlete will be playing an Autumn tour with a distinct lack of 'London' about it, plus we actually thought they were plugging the EP "The Getaway" and the album "Black Swan" (even if it was a year old). But, of course, it's 10 years on from their formation in 2001, which must mean a forthcoming 'hits' tour instead.

The chaps have just added a London date too - the 20th November gig at the Forum is on sale from Friday at 9am and you can still buy tickets for the remaining and previously announced shindigs from Liverpool (16th Nov) to Birmingham (4th Dec), prices starting at £16.50.

The tour lends a hint to the fact the band have a compilation due out, tentatively earmarked for a September release. Called "Singles 01:10", it rounds up all the singles with a deluxe-edition set to gather up a pile of B-sides and rarities and it's expected the dates above will also follow a similar format, with some new material sprinkled in for good measure.

As well as the 'hits' collection, Athlete have also unveiled a dub re-working of the 2007 album "Beyond The Neighbourhood". Cunningly called "Beyond Dub Neighbourhood", it features 8 remixes by esteemed producer, Dan Carey, who has worked with Hot Chip and CSS and includes "Hurricaned", "Flying Over Dub Stops" and "The Dubsiders". You can pick a copy up from their website www.athletehq.com , or at one of their gigs. Better get booking then!
