Hairspray

The ever-popular 'Hairspray' tour is set to continue this month when the company arrives in Manchester (The Opera House) for a two-week run beginning on 13th July and ending on the 31st. The role of Edna will be reprised by popular-singer Michael Ball, who will also be appearing at the Dublin leg (16th - 27th November) and Edinburgh's jaunt (14th December - 9th January 2011). Tickets are now on sale, priced from around £20 - £45.

Apart from starring as Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray" during the West End version of the musical, his CV reads like a 'musical' role-call with further successful starring-roles in "Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables", "Aspects of Love" and "The Woman in White". That's without his many TV specials and appearances.

The keen-eyed will notice that the show is appearing at other venues around the country aside from Manchester, Dublin and Edinburgh. These performances will feature Edna played by either Brian Conley (Plymouth, Milton Keynes, Oxford and Birmingham) or ex-Brookside actor Michael Starke (Liverpool, Sunderland and Bradford) with support from the Monkees' Micky Dolenz or Les Dennis in the role of Wilbur Turnblad. For the July Manchester Opera House dates, Young Ones actor Nigel Planer will play the role of Wilbur alongside Michael Ball. Note: all tickets for the Manchester shows are now sold-out.
