Featuring recordings made between the landmark 'Electric Ladyland' double album and 'First Rays of the New Rising Sun', 'Valleys of Neptune' is a collection of unreleased and previously un-finished recordings of blues-rock master Jimi Hendrix, released with the blessing of the Hendrix estate.
The twelve track album was produced by long-time Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer, released in March via Sony. Allgigs reviewer Peter Innes was smitten, awarding the album 4 stars, commenting:
Valleys of Neptune probably ain't entry level for new starters, but thankfully, it'll be there when folks are ready to catch up, years from now. This September, it'll be forty long years since Jimi died, aged only 28 - James Marshall Hendrix - he's still the Voodoo Chile, still the Magic Boy.
So, I guess you're liking the sound of this, then? Well, you'd be a bit of a fool not to, frankly, so here's how you can grab a slice of Jimi action:
Perhaps the easiest way to enter the competition is via Facebook (provided you are a Facebook user, that is), all you need to do is pop along to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/allgigs), become a fan - if not already, and comment "I'm a voodoo child!" on the "Win one of three copies of the Jimi Hendrix album 'Valleys of Neptune'" entry in our "Notes" tab.
Facebook winners will be notified via Facebook, so make sure your settings make you "contactable".
If you're not a Facebook user, you can enter by clicking the "Enter Competition" button, at the bottom of this article. You will be required to enter your email, full name and postal address (you will not be spammed or added to any kind of mailing list!).
We'll only accept entrants from the UK/ Ireland (Eire) - sorry!
The competition is a prize draw, with the winner chosen at random, which closes at midnight on Sunday 9th May 2010 - good luck!
