Planet Gong Reaches Planet Earth - Legendary Psychedelic Band Announce 2010 UK Dates

Posted: 8th April 2010

Since the 1970s, Anglo-French prog-rock outfit Gong have been telling the story of the mythical land of Planet Gong through the medium of music. Formed by guitarist Steve Hillage, ex-Soft Machiner Daevid Allen and synthesizer wizard Miquette Giraudy in 1967, they began a trilogy of intricate psychedelic works entitled 'Radio Gnome', comprising 'Flying Teapot', 'Angel's Egg' and 'You' all released from 1973 to 1974 and part of the swelling hippy-rock roster of a fledgling Virgin Records.

Cut to 2010 and Gong are back! A new album, '2032', has been recently released and features another chapter in the life of the mythology surrounding the band as well as starring many of the original line-up, including the aforementioned core trio plus Gilli Smyth, Mike Howlett and Didier Malherbe. The title refers to the year that the invisible Planet Gong will finally make contact with Planet Earth. And they say the drugs don't work...

Fuelled by plenty of tea, the key members will once again be performing together for a trio of dates starting with Glasgow on 9th September then Manchester on 10th September and finally London on the 11th. Tickets are £18.50 (£20 for London) and are on sale now.

This is a rare opportunity to witness the true-masters of jazz-prog mixing surrealism, theatre and sheer madness live on stage.
