First artist announcement for the 10th Summer Sundae Weekender 2010

Tinchy Stryder

Summer Sundae Weekender is back to celebrate its 10th year in style! This year's event is being held from 13th - 15th August at the usual location, De Montfort Hall and Gardens in Leicester.

Long considered a vanguard of the contemporary music festival, it is once again pulling together one of the most varied and discerning festival line-ups of the year. This first announcement features a typically exciting and eclectic combination of the hottest established names, legendary performers and new acts from across the musical stratosphere. Early bird tickets are now available until Wednesday 31st March, for information visit www.summersundae.com .

Summer Sundae Weekender is delighted to announce two huge success stories of the moment: Mumford & Sons and Tinchy Stryder. With word-of-mouth recommendations and a fearsome live reputation, Mumford & Sons have become one of the most significant British success stories in recent years, shifting nearly a quarter of a million copies of their debut 'Sigh No More' and with the Radio 1 A-List ubiquity of 'Winter Winds', they are a band on the verge of greatness. Tinchy Stryder meanwhile, is a man that needs no introduction with a brace of Number 1 singles ('Never Leave Me' and the prophetically titled 'Number 1'). The Bow born MC is quite possibly the hottest thing in British pop music right now and a real coup for the festival.

Summer Sundae Weekender has always had its finger on the pulse where new acts are concerned - Kate Nash, Amy Winehouse, Noah and The Whale, Jamie T and many more besides performed at the festival prior to superstardom. Local Natives are tipped by many as this year's band most likely to, and as recipients of widespread critical acclaim they look likely to succeed. Another band attracting a lot of attention is Erland & The Carnival who will add psychedelic flourishes to proceedings. Indie-rockers The Sunshine Underground and The Whip are two to bands infected with dance music DNA and are two of the most ebullient performers around.

As always there will be a smattering of legendary performers at this year's event. Alongside 80s rock band The Woodentops, they don't come more legendary than The Fall, with umpteen members since inception, the only ever-presents are Mark E Smith and his uncanny ability to perform rousing misanthropic music from one of his 27 studio albums!

The Mercury nominated Go! Team will deliver a heart-racing set of garage rock and frenetic beats and samples, whilst Laura Viers and Lou Rhodes, both singer songwriters and Summer Sundae veterans, will be sure to evoke sets of beguiling beauty on the De Montfort Hall stage.

Bucolic folk-pop with be provided by The Goldheart Assembly and the excellent A Genuine Freakshow and finally, the angular Wave Pictures, who are signed to tastemaker imprint Moshi Moshi, once the label of Florence and the Machine and Hot Chip, complete the bill so far.

Summer Sundae Weekender is particularly proud of its 10 year history and since its inception in 2001 it has expanded to a three day, six stage festival, with over a hundred acts. With a holistic approach to planning it has consciously retained the same boutique/bijou atmosphere and laid back cadence as the inaugural event. With yet more attention shown to all aspects of the festival, from improved and expanded camping facilities and further investment in The Garden, The Kidzone, Films and Comedy Tents and The Village areas, there will be more treats to tantalise and entice patrons to celebrate Summer Sundae Weekender, than ever before.
