Gertcha! Lewisham Included in the Chas and his Band Tour for a Right 2010 Rockney Knees-Up
Posted: 24th February 2010
Alright my son? Probably not if you felt a bit mopey after hearing about the Chas 'n Dave split last year. To quote a previous album title of theirs, 'Musn't Grumble', because the Chas half of the duo is back on the road with his new band and raring to go. Respect must go to Dave Peacock who left the band after the death of his wife and helped build an incredible and credible musical legacy - I mean, how can you NOT like at least one Rockney classic, be it the grumpy-stomper 'Gertcha', the hanky-on-your-head lunacy of 'Margate' or the tear-inducing ballad 'Ain't No Pleasing You'.
Chas Hodges is set to continue with a new backing band, some old songs and some new and, blow me, he's coming to Lewisham as a part of his sporadic UK tour. But he starts in Poole on March 5th and then continues on to Liverpool (18th at the Cavern, nice one), Winchester (May 15th), Whitley Bay (June 14th) and Bournemouth on August 15th.
'Gertcha!', I hear you holler. 'Where are the London dates?'. Keep your Barnet on, here they are:
The first London date is at the famous 100 Club, Oxford Street on March 19th while the day after sees him and his merry men cross the Thames to the Dirty South venue near the Lewisham/Lee borders. I hope he can get a cab that goes 'Souf of the river' at that time of night... Anyway, the 20th is the big night so get down their early and enjoy the atmosphere. We'll have another little article on the Dirty South soon so keep em peeled.
Tickets cost from around a tenner. Lovely.
