Well, 2010 started quietly enough, as New Years tend to in the entertainment world, but things are really hotting-up now with a lovely handful of sexy gigs coming your way, all available for purchase on the 22nd. If your fingers are twitching in anticipation then scroll down ... Unless otherwise stated they all go on sale at 9am (don't forget the usual booking fees on top). As long as you don't get your a.m. mixed up with your p.m. (like me this morning) then you should be one of the first in line for the goodies.
The big one is Ricky Gervais - no we're not getting personal, but he is playing just two dates at Wembley Arena on April 26th and 27th. He's been busy 'upsetting' celebrities at the Golden Globes during the past week, but it's his stand-up where he really shines. Be ready to click like a mad man on Friday!
Downsizing in physical build, though not in ticket-selling stature, is the immensely popular pixie Katie Melua. The curly-haired crooner has her 4th album out in May and to support the William Orbit-produced opus she has a swathe of performances in December. £32.50 is the asking price except for London which is £37.25 for the privilege of visiting the charming district of Hammersmith.
First out of the blocks CD-wise in 2010, was 'Acolyte' by Manchester's whirling electro-dervishes Delphic. Their current tour has been a bit of a sell-out so the chaps have tried to re-visit the bigger cities again with a bit of March madness. The album reached number 8 upon its release so demand will be high as the fairly-justified hype increases.
Of a similar ball-park is LCD Soundsystem whose previous album 'Sound Of Silver' was a bit of a beauty. James Murphy will not be 'losing his edge' with the 5 big dates between 23rd April and 2nd May and, with the threat of a new set of tunes on the horizon, looks set to fill the venues with ease. £23.50 you say? Oh yes.
Stereophonics are already embarking on a March tour but they added a special stadium gig with a twist this week. On June 5th the Welsh wizards will be banging out the hits and scoring with the fans at the Cardiff City Stadium - not too big, not too small, it should prove to be a highly personal gig. £35 for Kelly's heroes!
Finally there are a few other little gems on the schedule. Lou Reed is playing just one date Cambridge and Oxford on April 17th/ 18th. This special date sees the Velvet's legend crank out his 'Metal Machine Music' in a performance with treated and untreated guitars, a sax player and a sound processor. It really will be a walk on the wild side. £25 is the price. Other 'stunnas' for consideration are British-rapper Plan B (£15), 'Mr Bump-n-Grind' R Kelly (£30), jingle-jangle specialists of yore The Bluetones (£13) and singer-songwriter-with-a-4-star-Allgigs-review Joshua Radin (£14). The latter chap is also appearing at one of the week-long HMV Next Big Thing bash and it just so happens that those tickets are on sale on Fat Friday as well. Happy clicking!
