The London Paper to close - will it affect September 2009's Headliners festival?
Posted: 20th August 2009
So, we've just been told that the London Paper is to be axed, and - being the music-oriented people that we are - we wonder: "hmmm... will this affect the Headliners festival planned for September?".
Well, I guess at this point there's a definite "yes" and a possible "maybe", which is as good as we can do presently. We can say with almost 100% confidence that this will be the one-and-only Headliners festival - unless the name/ concept are adopted by another paper for next year, that is.
News International (The London Paper's owners) have entered a "30 day consultation period", during which time the newspaper shall continue to be published - and also a time-span which straddles the Headliners festival's 16th and 17th September dates. With the Headliners twitter (www.twitter.com/tlpheadliners) and news pages as recently as yesterday reporting on new acts, I think it's fair to say that we should get our festival, the line-up for which now includes: A. Human, Athlete, Biffy Clyro, Daniel Merriweather, Danny and the Champions of the World, DJ Yoda, Dot Allison, Doves, Flood Of Red, Ironik, Just Jack, Official Secrets Act, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Boxer Rebellion, The Lemonheads, V.V. Brown and Young Fathers - to name but eighteen acts. As you can see it's a very varied line-up who are (probably) set to hit venues in-and-around Charing Cross road.
The inaugural (and in all likelihood, only) Headliners Festival runs for two days on Weds 16th and Thursday 17th September. Tickets (see below for availability) are £20 per day or £40 for a combined ticket. Watch this space for more news!
